HOW TO INSTALL A KAISER SPRING KIT
Both time and effort can be saved by making repairs as follows:

1. Do not remove the spring. Work one end of a spring at a time. Drop the end that needs repairing and tear down.
2. After the spring pin has been removed, lower spring enough to work on eye and drive out old bushing.
3. Clean rust and scale in eye with emery cloth or similar method and wipe clean. Wipe grease around the lead end of the bushing assembly before installing with a bushing driver tool. The tool will prevent damage to the end of the bushing assembly and keeps the seals in place.
4. Test the pin in the spring eye after bushing assembly has been driven in. First lubricate the pin with a small amount of grease. Then by hand, push the pin thru the bushing assembly. Seals will cause a tight fit. However, if the pin binds - back the pin out and refer to Step 6.
5. When the spring pin binds in spring eye, back the pin out. Use the bushing driver and drive bushing assembly out the same direction it was driven in. Repeat Step 4 and continue from there. NOTE: Bushing assembly can be driven in and out any number of times without damage when using the bushing driver.
6. After testing the pin in the bushing assembly, raise the spring up to hanger and complete the assembly by driving in the spring pin and checking for side to side movement. Add washers to the assembly as needed. Lock the pin in position with lock bolts and nuts. Line-up tools will make final assembly easier after the spring has been raised to the hanger. Align the spring with the hanger by driving the short line-up pin into the spring hanger and eye from the back until flush with hanger. Then drive in the long line-up pin from the opposite side. Place the spring pin behind the long line-up pin. Drive both pins into spring eye until spring pin is in position.
SPRING REPAIR KIT CONFIGURATIONS
Spring Qwik Kits come in two seal configurations. Kits with separate seals and kits with encased seals (see chart below).

  • One (1) Qwik Kit reoairs both spring eyes
  • One (1) Qwik Kit is needed to repaireach of the rear shackles.
  • INSTALLATION TIPS
  • Do not remove the spring. Drop one end at a time to keep the alignment.
  • Clean eyes before installing bushing assembly.
  • Test spring pin in bushing assembly that has been installed in the spring eye before raising the spring for final assembly.
