TIPS FOR SALESPERSON WITH CUSTOMER
Salesperson: Good morning. How can I help you?
Customer: I need a king pin set for my truck.
Salesperson: We have Kaiser PLUS King Pin sets that are easy to install. The bushings have been sized for you. You don't have to line ream them. That means repairs can be done in about half the time of other king pins.
Customer: That sounds good, but I don't want to put any more money into the truck than I have to. I am planning to get a new one next year.
Salesperson: Then Kaiser is what you need. The curvilinear king pin will give you 50% more life at a cost equal to what other king pins will cost to install. Plus you can do the work and save more money.
Customer: That'd be great!
Salesperson: That's not all, the curvilinear design gives you 150% more load bearing surface and more grease capacity. More grease-less friction. It stands to reason, Kaiser will give you longer life and better lubrication at a lower cost.
Customer: That's what I want. I'll try one. I don't know my kit number. I bought the truck in 1985, and I think it has a 12,000 lb. axle.
Salesperson: I'll check the Kaiser cross reference catalog on the number for you, but first, would you like me to arrange for our service department to install it?
Customer: No, I'll tackle this one myself.
Salesperson: OK, I'll get you the kit and by the way, if you need help, Kaiser has a "Customer Service" number 1-888-854-6474.
QUESTIONS and ANSWERS
Here are some of the questions most frequently asked about Kaiser PLUS King Pin kits... and answers you can share with your customers.
Q: How can I tell a Kaiser PLUS pin from everyone else's pin?
A: The pin is marked "Kaiser" on the end that is also marked top. The ends of the Kaiser pin are more rounded to reduce the edge effect and insure a larger contact or load bearing area. This is called a "curvilinear surface" on the pin.
Q: Can I use nylon or some other bushing with the Kaiser PLUS King Pin?
A: Yes, you can, however, the bushings in Kaiser PLUS are pre-sized so line reaming is not necessary. If you use other bushings, they will have to be line reamed. The curvilinear pin has been tested with other bushings and has proved to provide acceptable life.
Q: I need an economical king pin kit for my truck.
A: Install Kaiser PLUS. The kit costs a little more, but you don't have to line ream the bushings. When you compare costs with other kits, adding in the reaming, you'll come out better. Plus you'll get 50% more king pin life with Kaiser PLUS.
Q: I pressed a bushing in the bore and the Kaiser pin wouldn't fit. What happened?
A: The press distorted the bushing on the end. You should use a bushing driver which supports the bushing as it is driven into the bore. You won't distort the bushing using this method.
To correct the problem, hone the distorted end of the bushing until there is enough clearance for the king pin. A cracked bushing should be replaced with new.
Q: Can the Kaiser PLUS kit correct an out of round spindle bore?
A: Kaiser PLUS is manufactured to fit spindle bores that are in good condition. The no ream bronze bushing cannot compensate for excessive wear. Always check the bores when the bushing doesn't mate to the wall all around the bore. A loose bushing will not give the same life as one that fits properly. When in doubt CHECK SPINDLE BORES.
