SPRING EYE & SHACKLE QWIK KIT

Kaiser Spring Eye & Shackle QWIK KITS have proven to withstand the environmental road conditions better than other designs by incorporating the principles of steel on steel. Grease grooved pins and bushings with seals keep the grease in place and working. After 10 years of testing, including 500,000 miles of road tests, steel on steel proved to give 4 to 5 times more wear life than other designs.

The spring bushing is made of high-chrome, high-carbon tool steel, and heat treated for strength and durability. The spring pin is made from an alloy steel carburized and hardened to a hard case, creating a tough outer wear surface and leaving a tough ductile core to take up shock transmitted through the spring action. The two steels in the pin and bushing have proven to be compatible, without galling and seizing, with proper greasing. The steel on steel combination has been found to better withstand the wear action placed upon the front spring suspension under all road conditions.

Install the Kaiser QWIK KIT and with normal maintenance plan on 4 to 5 times more wear life between repairs. QWIK KITS come complete with all necessary parts to make repairs. There is a kit for most vehicle models, axles, and pin configurations (see Kaiser Cross Reference Catalog).

GREASE GROOVED PINS AND BUSHINGS

The Kaiser Spring QWIK KITS with their Spiral Steel Bushings and Pins provide positive lubrication. The pin has a double figure eight grease groove. Grease can travel around the pin and over its entire length. The Spiral Steel Bushing has spiral grease grooving its entire length. The grease groove action between the pin and bushing crisscross each other some 9 times providing better lubrication and increases the grease capacity by 3 times. The Spiral Steel Bushing is sub-assembled into a hardened steel sleeve to protect the bushing from grit and dirt in the spring eye. Also, the steel sleeve is used to bring the forged spring eye to a predetermined size and make it round under normal conditions.

By sizing the bushing assembly in manufacturing, NO reaming is necessary during installation. The pin is finished for running fit clearance in the bushing. Final assembly can be made without additional work. Work can be done with the spring on the vehicle. Repairs can be done in half the time, saving both time and money.

Each QWIK KIT consists of 2 pins, 2 bushing assemblies and all necessary hardware. It will take 3 kits to repair both springs on a vehicle. One QWIK KIT for both front spring eyes, 2 kits for both rear shackles (1 kit for each side).

SEALS

Springs fail from lack of lubrication. Normally when the grease runs out, dirt gets in between the pin and bushing causing them to freeze-up, and something has to give. Either a leaf in the spring is going to break or a hanger will be pounded out.

All Kaiser Spring QWIK KITS have encased seals in each end of the bushing assemblies. The encased seals in each end keep the grease in and the dirt out. The seal design balances pressure within the bushing area. This balance along with the grease grooves on the pin insures complete greasing. It is not necessary to jack the vehicle up to grease the spring eyes or shackles. All greasing can be done on the ground with the vehicle fully loaded. With three times more grease capacity Kaiser QWIK KITS can keep that vehicle in service and out of the shop longer.

Kaiser QWIK KITS common sense approach to spring maintenance--

  • Steel on Steel for its long life wearability 4 to 5 times more wear life than other designs.
  • Grease grooved pins and bushings for better lubrication, holds more grease, keeps prease working in high wear areas.
  • Encased seals engineered to keep grease in and dirt out.
