NO REAM PLUS KIT INSTALLATION for KING PIN STEERING KNUCKLE REPAIRS - page 1 of 2

* Use established procedures for teardown. Remove steering knuckle from vehicle.
STEERING KNUCKLE PREPARATION
1. Drive out old bushings with a bushing driver.
2. Remove grease fittings and clean out grease ports. (side spindle greasing only)
3. Clean spindle bores and wipe dry.
4. Remove burrs from each bore including the bores on the axle.
CAUTION: Nylon bushing applications - after removing the bushings, measure the spindle bores for excessive wear.
KAISER PLUS cannot correct worn spindle bores.
KAISER PLUS INSTALLATION IMPORTANT - Install bushing In bottom bore first using the following procedures:
5. Position the bushing on the end of the KAISER bushing driver with the long pilot (see illustration) to prevent damaging the end of the presized bushing while driving it into the bore. Place in the bottom bore and drive the bushing in using a brass mallet.
CHECK PLUS KING PIN CLEARANCE
Use one of the Kaiser Plus king pins to check the pin clearance in the bottom bore. If the pin passes completely through the bushing, continue with the installation referring to Section A (numbers 6 through 10). If the pin does not pass through the bushing, refer to Special Installation Procedures, Section B (numbers 11 through 16).

Section A.
INSTALLATION FOR PINS THAT PASS THROUGH BORES

6. Install top bushing using the same procedures performed on the bushing in the bottom bore.

7. With the word "TOP" showing on the king pin, install the pin lining up the lock flats with the lock pin holes in the axle. Insert the pin through top bore enough to hold the spindle on the axle and insert the thrust bearing that has been pre-packed with grease. Position the king pin and install lock pins but do not set them.

8. Check up and down movement. Add a shim if there is movement. Must have a snug fit.

9. After installing end plates set look pins in the axis.

10. Continue with established procedures to complete the assembly.

Section B.
SPECIAL INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

The following instructions are for king pins that did not pass through the bottom bushings.

IMPORTANT: Place spindle on axle before installing a bushing in the top bore of the spindle using the following procedures:

11. With the word "TOP" showing on the king pin, install the pin lining up the lock flats with the lock pin holes in the axis. Insert the pin through top bore enough to hold the spindle on the axle and insert the thrust bearing that has been pre-packed with grease. Then allow the king pin to slip down and rest on the bottom bushing.

12. Check up and down movement. Add a shim if there is movement. Must have a snug fit.
