Seals and Pressure Relief Valves

Kaiser Qwik Kit for both side spindle and end greasing applications have extra heavy end plates. "O" rings or Quad rings are used for their sealing abilities where possible. Side spindle greasing applications use pressure relief valves in end plates to prevent seal failure by allowing trapped air to escape. End greasing applications have grease fittings in place of the pressure relief valves in the end plates (top and bottom.)

No Guess Work in Greasing

Grease with either a hand grease gun or a pressure system. The Kaiser end plate with a pressure relief valve eliminates guess work. When grease appears at the wear surface (between spindle and I-beam) and out the pressure relief valve in the end plate, the bushing unit is completely greased. Grease fitting in end plate. A flow through grease path is achieved when greasing through end plate. The bushing unit takes grease better because of the grooving on the pin and bushing.
Greasing can be done with vehicle fully loaded. "Jacking-up" the front end to remove the pressure is not necessary. Grease intervals can be extended to 40,000 miles based on a good maintenance program and type of grease used.

The Kaiser Qwik Kit Time Saver

Predetermined measurements allow a minimum tear down and reduces down time. The steering knuckle spindle has to be swung away from the axle eye enough to drive out the old bushings and clean spindle bores, I-beam bore, and grease ports. All burrs must be removed from the bore.
The Kaiser Spiral Steel Bushing is hand twisted in. To start, hold the bush- ing at a slight angle with the tip of the bushing down in the bore. A clockwise twisting and pushing motion will start the bushing into the spindle bore. Use a "T" handle wrench to grip the bushing on the side opposite the tip and with the same clockwise twist and push action the bushing is put into position. (A pair of pliers may be used also.) A few taps with a hammer to set the bushing in place will complete the job all without using a press or line reamer. Test the king pin in the axle eye and the spindle bores before assembly. The predetermined measure- ments allow for a smooth slip fit by the king pin. Should the king pin fit tight, remove it and the bushings, inspect and removeobstruction orburrs inthespindle bores. Reassemble. The Kaiser King Pin Does Not Have To Be Driven In To Assemble. The use of any force indicates an obstruction in the bore.

Qwik Bushing Removal

The bushing can be removed any number of times without damaging it provided the following procedures are followed:

1. Use a bushing driver to drive out the bushing or use a flat bladed screwdriver, raise the bushing wrap at its smallest point. Raise the wrap until the screwdriver rests on the end plate surface above bore.

2. Grip the bushing with a "T" handle wrench, or a pair of pliers, as far away as possible from the screwdriver holding the wrap up. Use a clockwise twisting and pulling action to remove the bushing.

3. REMOVE BURR OR OBSTRUCTION, then reassemble as instructed in above paragraph.

KASIER SAVINGS

  • Eliminates press-in and line reaming operations.
  • Minimum tear down; a complete front end can be done in less than one half the time it would normally take.
  • All work can be done on the vehicle in the shop without special tools or outside labor.
  • Special training is not required to do the job.
  • Greased grooved pins and bushings with pressure relief valves make and easy task of maintenance.
  • Maintenance programs can be spaced out to 35,000 miles or more.
  • 500,000 proven miles between repairs.
  • Choose the Bushing for its Wear Life
Material Average Wear Life in Miles Installation
Brass 125,000* Press in and ream to size
Nylon 75,000* Assembled without special tools
    Steel
    (Kaiser spiral bushing)
    500,000 Assembled without special tools
    * The milages were arrived at by many personal interviews with maintenance personnel. The mileage varies depending upon grease; maintenance; conditions - climate, terrain, road conditions; loading.
CAUTION:   KAISER SPRIAL STEEL BUSHINGS MUST BE USED WITH KAISER GREASE GROOVED KING PINS. A KAISER QWIK KIT CANNOT CORRECT A STEERING KNUCKLE OR AXLE EYE BEAM THAT IS WORN BEYOND THEIR EXTENDED LIMITS.
