NO-REAM BUSHINGS QWIK KIT BULLETIN 7

KAISER SPIRAL STEEL BUSHINGS AND PINS FOR FRONT STEERING AXLES

Kaiser Qwik Kit Uses Three Principles to Achieve Longer Life

1. Spiral Steel Bushings, steel pin combination for wearability.

2. Grease grooving on pins and bushings to provide more grease and better lubrication in high wear areas.

3. Pressure relief valves in end plates to keep seals in place ans also provide positive greasing. (Side spindle greasing only).

Tested 500,000 Miles Without Repairs

Kaiser Spiral Steel King Pin Bushing is backed up by 10 years of research and development on the highway and in the laboratory. Highway tests included all types of climate, terrain and road conditions. The tests proved the longer wear life at a reduced cost per mile which far exceeds the ordinary bushing.

Steel on Steel Makes the Difference

The Kaiser Spiral Bushing is made of a tool steel with 12% Chrome, 1.5% Carbon and heat treated to its highest strength. The Kaiser King Pin is made from a well balanced alloy steel (8620), carburized, and hardened to a hard case of 62/64 R/C scale. A tough ductile core is left to take up transmitted road shocks. The two steels are compatible without any gailing or seizing. They are designed to take the turning and pounding placed on a steering knuckle and I-beam.

King Pin Qwik Kits for Front Axles

Kaiser Qwik Kits offer another option on steering knuckle king pin repairs. Bronze bushings require pressing

and line reaming operations. Nylon can be slipped in but requires more care in maintenance and more frequent repairs. The third option, is a steel on steel repair kit that can be installed like the nylon and outlast the bronze 4 to 5 times with less maintenance.
Kaiser Qwik Kit are manufactured for steering knuckle spindles with axle ratings from 1/2 ton up to 22,000 lbs. All Qwik Kits come complete with grease grooved king pins, spiral steel bushings, thrust bearings, end plates and all necessary hardware to make the repair. There is a kit for each vehicle model, year and axle. (See Kaiser Cross Reference Catalog, #1 01)

Oversize Kits

Kaiser Oversize Qwik Kits are available for the repair of either worn steering knuckle spindles, worn axle eyes, or both. Repairs start by boring the spindles or axle eye bores for 1 00% clean-up in increments of five thousandths (.005) not exceeding twenty thousandths (.020). Kits come with all necessary parts to complete the repair. Oversize dimension and position must be specified (.005, .01 0,.O1 5,.020 oversize bushings when spindles have been bored) or (.005,.O1 0, .01 5,.020 oversize pins when axle eyes have been bored out) or both. (See oversize kit number system, catalog1O1.)

Grease Grooving

Kaiser Spiral Steel Bushings and King Pins are grease grooved to provide more and better lubrication.
Pins are grease grooved each end. The grease grooving has been engineered to keep grease moving into high wear areas. The Spiral Steel Bushing has approximately 50" of grease grooving on the I.D. and O.D. with transfer ports. The transfer ports allow the grease to pass through the bushing from the spindle grease part to the pin on side spindle grease applications. The grease grooving on the pin and bushing is designed to crisscross each other some 22 times to make grease travel the entire circumference and length of the wear surface.
The grooves provide three times more grease in the high wear areas. (See illustration.) This crisscross grooving creates a constant wiping action maintaining a grease film between the grease grooved pin and bushing as the spindle turns.
A 2 to 6 thousandths (.002 to .006) clearance between the pin and bushing plus the crisscross grooving allows for this film of grease between the two metal parts resulting in extended life.
